Djembabe are Maribor based female percussion group who successfully mix traditional West African rhythms with a pinch of Slav temperament. Last week we had a short but sweet photo session, with great help from my buddy Tomaž and my wife Špela behind the scenes.

Recently I had a privilege to work with three great young classical musicians from Slovenia, currently studying in Austria, who perform under the name Trio à chanter.
Eleven moths after they were in my, then newly opened, photo studio for some promo photos, Koala Voice - one of my favourite bands - is back! Yep, we have a hell of a coffee here at SHtudio and people tend to come for more :)

The girls from Djembabe are just in the process of finishing their second album, so this concert at Festival Etnika 2018 in Maribor was a great opportunity for the home audience to hear some new material as well as the old hits from their debut album.
It was a while since the last time I photographed Djembabe live, have to admit. Paradoxically, because my wife plays the violin in the band - that’s why I was even more happy to catch them opening Maribum Afriqui 2018 festival this month in Maribor! ;)
Few weeks ago I was privileged to photograph Maja Bevc, a great Slovenian jazz singer & vocal coach, violi(ni)st, amazing person a dear friend… and my FIRST client in my NEW photo studio! :)
Movie night in Kino Udarnik in Maribor included screening of two movies which show connections & collaborations between Slovenian artists from Maribor and their colleagues in Mali, Africa.
Glas podzemlja (Voice of undergound), Maribor (Slovenia), 08/12/2015
Brilliant evening in an intimate atmosphere of a recording studio, full of warm music & cool people that was just what we needed in the cold winter night!
Last weekend I did a quick promo photoshoot for a Croatian/Slovenian band Helika, which, I’m sure, is already a pretty known name to the regular readers of my blog since I’ve been photographing them on multiple occasions. And that’s not just because my wife is in the band, but also ‘cause I really like their "trip pop" music!

Afir Bafir is a legendary drumming collective from Maribor formed some 18 years ago by even more legendary Nino Mureškič playing West African rhythms and their own songs. And playing it fast & loud!
Plesna izba Maribor's annual winter drummers show production
Second part of the annual winter show production of the Maribors dance school & dance company Plesna izba Maribor called "Naj bobni" featured drummers from their drummers classes, plus a benefit concert for their friends in the state of Mali.
Just few months after I had the opportunity to shoot Primož Oberžan with his collective The Stroj, the "other fraction" of once united collective came to Maribor - StrojMachine!
Just published another photographic project of mine, called "Don’t forget the drummer". Subtitled "A thing for drummers", this new project features photographs of guys and girls who are most often neglected when photographing the live performances.
