Djembabe @ Wetrinsky, Maribor (Slovenia), 07/09/2018
It was a while since the last time I photographed Djembabe live, have to admit. Paradoxically, because my wife plays the violin in the band. But, with our two small boys at home, it’s hard to always arrange babysitting so I could join them. And the girls were (are!) pretty active at the moment.
That’s why I was even more happy to catch them opening Maribum Afriqui 2018 festival this month in Maribor. And the concert was maybe the best I’ve seen of them - full of great energy, they sounded brilliant and the great (home) audience brought even more in them. Well done girls! ;)
The indisputable star of the evening was Tina Sovič. She is one of the founders of Djembabe, the main creative force behind the band, I’d say. She is also the organiser of the festival that promotes connection between cultures. And of top of that, after the Djembabe gig, she played the whole concert with this years festival main star Abou Diarra, as a guest of his Abou Diarra & band. Bravo Tina! ;)
And not to forget a special guest, Tina's son Ariel Vei Atanasovski on cello - great job Ariel! ;)
Pekarna, Dvorana Gustaf, Maribor (Slovenia), 10/11/2018
The girls from Djembabe are just in the process of finishing their second album, so this concert at Festival Etnika 2018 in Maribor was a great opportunity for the home audience to hear some new material as well as the old hits from their debut album.
