Jazz klub Satchmo, Maribor (Slovenia), 16/11/2011
Sex Mob is New York based jazz band or should we say side project of the four excellent jazz musicians: Steven Bernstein (slide trumpet), Tony Scherr (bass), Briggan Krauss (saxophone) and Kenny Wollesen (drums). Legendary Steven Bernstein (just check out his discography and see all his collaborations) is a "ubiquitous figure in New York's downtown jazz scene" and has been performing with many different musicians, be it in the jazz scene like Roswell Rudd, Sam Rivers, Don Byron and Medeski, Martin & Wood, as well Aretha Franklin, Lou Reed, Sting and Courtney Love. He was also the musical director for the "Kansas City Band" (from Robert Altman's film Kansas City), for example :)
As a Sex Mob, they perform a great deal of covers, usually familiar pop songs, giving them a unique avant garde jazz treatment, with some extra humour. This night, which was titled "Sex Mob: play Duke Ellington, Nino Rota and James Bond", they took us into their own world of known title songs and melodies from 007 movies, famous Nino Rotas and Duke Ellington pieces and what a world that was! :)
The was the last concert in the Izzven 2011 schedule, we are expecting some great shows already in January 2012.
