Helika is a new and exciting Croatian-Slovenian band, consisting of four musicians with pretty different musical backgrounds - from classical music to trans-galactic post-rock; from guitar and bass, to percussions and violin.
I've been a fan of their music for some time now, even when Dario, the main force behind the band, was "just" making instrumental music for his friends university movies. After my wife Špela joined the band last year, I've become even a bigger fan, obviously! :)
Their style is pretty unique - you can hear sounds ranging from indie rock to world music. In one moment, they can be mellow and quiet and in another, rocking and loud. They have just finished their first record called "Djeca kiše" (Children of the rain) and are currently negotiating with few record labels in Croatia (Dario, Zagreb born kid, is singing in Croatian). Practicing hard for their first gig with the new line-up to promote their debut album (January 26th in KGB, Maribor, Slovenia), I recently visited them in their studio for a quick documentary style photo shoot.

Tadej Vesenjak banda + Madame Brumowski + In The Attic

One day after my wife Špela played with her band Djembabe in Maribor, she was playing with her other (new) band - Madame Brumowski - in a fabulous outdoor venue of an old quarry (stone pit). And we were able to arrange babysitting again (I explained the problem in my last blogpost), so I was very lucky to be there! :)
Helika, promo shooting
Last weekend I did a quick promo photoshoot for a Croatian/Slovenian band Helika, which, I’m sure, is already a pretty known name to the regular readers of my blog since I’ve been photographing them on multiple occasions. And that’s not just because my wife is in the band, but also ‘cause I really like their "trip pop" music!
