Nada Surf + Ezra Furman + Tall Ships
Postgarage, Graz (Austria), 08/11/2012
Nada Surf have been on my "want to see/photograph live" list for quite some time now. Unexpectedly, they came quite close to my town during their Europe 2012 Fall Tour, which was an opportunity not to be missed!
Their college indie rock with great lyrics and vocals by Matthew Caws is something I really like. Of course, they have also some great "slower" songs - not cheesy, but just beautiful.
The concert was just great, as expected, the club was packed (first time in Postgarage, really cool club!) and what I was really positively surprised was the bands easy going attitude - no star bullshit, just good vibe rock'n'roll with great respect for the audience and fellow musicians. And even an extra acoustic version of "Blizard of '77" by the merchandise stand after the gig with Matthew on acoustic guitar, plus hanging out with their fans in the backstage before their bus take off. You don't really see this that much this days, good stuff...
Plus, an extra bonus for us - we got to see two really good support acts. First we saw Tall Ships, British math/post-rock trio promoting their really debut album "Everything Touching". Very good album, very mature performance, would like to see them again for sure. Second one was Ezra Furman solo, without his The Harpoons, promoting his debut solo album "The Year Of No Returning". Dylan meets Gordon "Violent Fammes" Gano would be a short description of this cool artist, and the same as for Tall Ships applies for him - very good album, very mature performance, would like to see him again for sure :)
