Djembabe, recording session @ B.A.S.E., Maribor (Slovenia)
Djembabe are Afro-Slavic band from Maribor, Slovenia, that "successfully mix traditional West African rhythms with a pinch of Slav temperament". After successful debut album "Srečanja" (Encounters) that was published in 2016, this great all girls sextet are preparing material for the next record and were recording few of the new songs. First session took place in April 2018 in B.A.S.E. music school studio in Maribor, with Danilo Ženko, a
legend and one of the best sound engineers in Slovenia who worked with many of the best known Slovenian rock bands (Laibach, Dan D, Siddhartha,Terrafolk, …) and many festivals and institutions (Festival Lent, Festival Maribor, Carmina Slovenica, Mariborska filharmonija, Opera SNG Maribor, …).
It all sounded pretty pretty pretty nice - can't wait for the rest! :)
Pekarna, Dvorana Gustaf, Maribor (Slovenia), 10/11/2018
The girls from Djembabe are just in the process of finishing their second album, so this concert at Festival Etnika 2018 in Maribor was a great opportunity for the home audience to hear some new material as well as the old hits from their debut album.
It was a while since the last time I photographed Djembabe live, have to admit. Paradoxically, because my wife plays the violin in the band - that’s why I was even more happy to catch them opening Maribum Afriqui 2018 festival this month in Maribor! ;)
Plesna izba Maribor's annual winter drummers show production
Second part of the annual winter show production of the Maribors dance school & dance company Plesna izba Maribor called "Naj bobni" featured drummers from their drummers classes, plus a benefit concert for their friends in the state of Mali.
Nikolaj Sajko (cello) and Miha Haas (piano), two of Slovenian known classical musicians, joined their forces to record their debut album called "Grieg, Savin, Martinů, Pucihar".
Recording took place in Maribor, Slovenia, in November 2011. I was hired to make some photographs at the sessions...
