The girls from Djembabe are just in the process of finishing their second album, so this concert at Festival Etnika 2018 in Maribor was a great opportunity for the home audience to hear some new material as well as the old hits from their debut album.
People in Maribor sometimes complain that there are not enough concerts happening in our town, especially if we compare Maribor with Ljubljana, Slovenian capital city. However, this of one of those night where there were (at least!) three cool concerts happening at the same time: Jani Kovačič & Ana Pupedan played at KGB, Koala Voice at MC Pekarna and there was Festival Etnika happening in Gustaf. Sadly, but that’s life I guess - I was able to cover (only) two of those and both were great! :)
The next morning I met Djembabe for a photoshoot for the CD cover (which was great fun), but that’s another story :)

It was a while since the last time I photographed Djembabe live, have to admit. Paradoxically, because my wife plays the violin in the band - that’s why I was even more happy to catch them opening Maribum Afriqui 2018 festival this month in Maribor! ;)
